Tell your hostesses a great story and create a bond

Are you employing the services of hostesses or other temporary staff? Make sure they are well-informed about the company, the people, the exhibition objectives and operational aspects. There is nothing more nullifying for the effective functioning of temporary staff than ignorance and lack of basic information!

Tell them something about your company. Tell them what it is you do and in what sector you are active. What’s your company history and what are you known for? What are your best assets and which corporate values do you stand for? Are there any newsy facts they should be aware of and are there any rumours doing the rounds (if so, how they should they react to these)?

Tell them something about your company’s people. Who are the faces behind the company? Who are the people manning the stand and what are their tasks and responsibilities? Are there any ‘personalities’ they need to be aware of? The same goes for visitors and business relations: what kind of people are they and how should they be approached? Any special guests expected?

Tell them something about your objectives. Why is the company exhibiting here and what is the image you want to portray? What are your concrete targets? What are you registering/evaluating and how? Which activities have been planned to reach those objectives?

Tell them something about the operational aspects/tasks. What do you expect from them? Where should they be stationed in the stand and what should their demeanour be? What are their exact tasks? When and where can they take a break? What should they report, to whom and when?

Tell it all like a story. Don’t give the temporary staff all the above information in check-list style, but weave it into a kind of story so that they can bond with your company. This will also help to evoke the desirable attitude.
